Description
Embracing Wings is all about embracing femininity and the power women hold. I was heavily inspired by butterflies and Impressionist paintings, especially those of Claude Monet. The butterfly has a deep personal meaning to me, and they are seen as a very feminine creature. Butterflies are not only beautiful, but they also inspire a childlike wonder. When it comes to finding and embracing oneself, the butterfly is the perfect symbol. Impressionism is widely regarded as the first art movement in Western history that did not require perfection. Each individual stroke of the painting is left purposefully unblended. Each painting is a wonderfully lit, colorful masterpiece.
I considered the silhouette of the butterfly throughout the construction of my garments in a very feminine, delicate manner. I also found bright, vivid fabrics inspired by Impressionist paintings and my own color maximalist aesthetic. I used a mixture of double faced satin, crepe back satin, and even linen throughout this collection. The use of the satin created an ethereal, Impressionistic glow. The linen balanced the satin fabrics and also is a natural fiber, creating more sustainable pieces available in the collection.
The idea behind the femininity of this collection is to embrace that women are powerful and being a woman is empowering.
